i love that only hours after completion, my new quilt was used to comfort my feverish baby. he climbed onto the couch and pulled it over himself at 11pm last night, while he waited for me to get him some medicine. i think he may be wondering why mama is taking his picture when he is so miserable. :)
ashlyn wanted to try and sew when i was making my quilt, so i told her that we would soon set up something for her to try sewing with. This afternoon she reminded me, so i cut out a fleece heart and grabbed a piece of fabric for her to sew it to. i showed her a little, and she just went with it. so great. she had such fun doing it, too. i first had her do a straight stitch around the heart, and then i had her stitch from the brown to the pink (what is that called?). anyway, i think she did great for her first time! she wants to do more tomorrow :)

i finally made a green and blue quilt! i bought half yards of fabric, so it was hard to figure out a design that i liked and that didn't need more than half a yard :) one of these days i'll do it right...figuring out the design BEFORE i buy! hehe.
ok, so the back was completely done from leftover scraps. i had the wide strips of muslin leftover from my orange/brown quilt, which was lucky. i basically put it together like a puzzle...putting things where they fit. it was interesting and fun b/c i couldn't have ever planned it. my binding is definitely getting perfected. it looks really nice . i bought 1/2 bias tape this time and machine sewed the front on and then hand sewed it to the back.
the quilting was easy but a lot of work b/c i had to start and stop with each line... tying off and re-threading. it was annoying, but i like the end effect. very puffy and cozy looking.
i think the quilt actually looks better in person..the photos are a bit dark b/c the light was fading when i took these. you get the idea, i'm sure :)
this morning, as i went to heat up my car to take ashlyn to school, i found this all over my car. i thought it looked so cool! didn't touch this in photoshop...au natural :)
life is just going on as normal. the kids had monday and tuesday off, we've had sun and fog, but the rain is deciding to take a big break this winter, apparently. The kids took advantage of the two, and took their new bikes out for the first time. They rode those things all day. rode them some more yesterday. they are a hit :) i have to admit that it's a little strange letting them just ride outside while i am inside! i've taught them the safety basics and we live on a quiet street, but it's still weird. and little stuff like ashlyn coming in to ask "if they can go past the stop sign" (no). They are growing up. too fast.
scott and adam had their guitars out the other night. it really is so cool to have scott here.
and me.... i'm on to my next project :)
oh, and one for kicks....we checked in on the kids before bed the other night, and found this in ben's room. i love how neatly he layed out his underware! lol. it's a blurry pic, but you get the idea!

Ashlyn went over to her friend's house for a sleepover tonight. their house is only 2 doors down, so...kinda nice! she was soooo excited. She walked over there with such a air of confidence, excitement, and i could tell she felt so grown up :). i can't wait to hear all about it tomorrow!
ok, she was so excited that she told me she started packing on wednesday. tonight when i went to finish the job, i saw it. how cute is that little bundle all tied up???? i died and grabbed my camera.
the amount of years i have been adam's wife. and happily so. :) this past year has been a good one. difficult in some ways, but really good in what came out of it. we are understanding each other more, connecting, and enjoying each other's company tremendously. He really is my best friend. i'm so very excited to see how this 10th year evolves for us.
